Located about 20 km from the capital city of Amsterdam and the airport Schiphol, Haarlem is one of Holland's most attractive cities. Known as the City of Flowers, it is a place of historical architecture, culture and outstanding modern facilities. The historic city centre with its broad range of period architecture is criss-crossed by scenic waterways. The fine old cathedral of St. Bavo on the main square dominates the skyline. Although situated at the heart of Holland's industrial region, Haarlem is also close to the coastal dunes and many areas of natural beauty, including the world-famous Dutch bulb fields. It has a great deal to offer to both residents and tourists. Haarlem has been described as a pocket-sized, relaxed version of Amsterdam.
